Category: accessible Devices
Was wondering if anyone has used net flics before. It sounds cool and I wasn't sure if it was accessible.
I use it quite often. I interact with it on my PS3, and haven't used the site much. But it's gotten a lot more visual in the last few months. How accessible do you need it to be?
The website is accessible for signing up, setting up your DVD queue and searching for movies but the player for streaming movies is not. The iPhone app is also no longer accessible. However, Streaming is totally accessible and works great with an Apple TV. If you just want to get a DVD plan, you can do that from the site. If you want streaming, you'll have trouble unless you've got some vision to fall back on or you go the Apple TV route. But, Apple TV is pretty awesome and well worth the 100 bucks or so if you're going to use Netflix.
funny thing is, it depends on what screenreader your using, NDVA does fine streeming with netflix and I do it also with jaws 12 and 13
Interesting. I'll have to try again. Last time I tried it with JAWS, it was no good. But, it's been quite awhile.
I love Netflix! Thanks for the post about Apple TV, by the way.
I'm going to start another thread to ask more.
Anyway, back to Netflics, I haven't had any trouble streaming or using the site. The Iphone ap also has worked well for me. I do wish they would come up with a better way for navigating through the search results rather than having to arrow through 8 billion links for reviewing stuff, etc. That could very well just be user error on my part though. It's very well worth it.
I too am not aware of any problem with the iphone app.
I can use streaming with jaws 13, and find netflix to be a great service.
Hmmm. Well I haven't tried the iPhone app lately. There was a big uproar on Twitter after the last Netflix update in January. Everyone was saying that it broke accessibility. I never downloaded the update for that reason. Sorry if my info was wrong. That's what I get for relying on Twitter I guess. It came from people who usually know what they're talking about but I haven't had the time to mess with it myself.
I use net flicks on my apple tv and yes it does work with voice over on mack to.
yyyayay. for net flicks. it is awesome.
netflix is awesome, use it on my iPhone, and my apple tv, computer it does work if you have up to day screen readers, but I find it like it better on the apple tv, but thats just my personal preference.
Yes the apple tv does work.
It also works with the Mac but not the eye phone.
If you use their system, can you use the IPhone app to control that as well? I've thought about getting it to help cut down on bills and things, but don't want to have my 3-year-old constantly having to sit at my computer just to watch movies/cartoons partly because I don't like the thought of her just sitting at my computer staring at the screen, whereas if she were sitting in front of the tv, at least I'd have more of an idea as to what was going on around her, and 2, when she sits at my desk, she's more fascinated by the stuff on my desk, than what I've found for her to watch.
So it would be nice if you could control it that way.
I love netflics on my apple tv. The only thing I hate is when you click on a category it only shows you 75 results. Also, say I do a search for something even if I only type 1 letter it only brings up 6 items. Anyone else have this issue? If there is something I'm missing or something I need to set please let me know. Hugs all!
I've noticed that 6 results thing too. Who's got a fix? lol
